Change Management

  • Spearheaded and implemented a range of change management projects to successfully achieve the merger of two organizations with different cultures, employee relations, and compensation practices. Supported senior management's goals while incorporating suggestions from staff to instill a unified sense of purpose and direction. Updated and realigned all human resources policies and procedures. Customer satisfaction rating rose from 84% to 95% during this transition.
  • Designed, administered, and analyzed results of an organizational survey to measure staff reaction to an organizational merger. Recommended and implemented strategies to reduce anxiety and confusion, and raise morale.
  • Advised senior executives of a newly merged health care organization on strategic human resource management issues, including an in-depth analysis of the impact of organizational culture on the merger;

Employee Relations & Communications

  • Researched, designed and developed an innovative grievance/peer review procedure that increases employee trust and decreases union influence
  • Designed and developed a human resources model to define level and methods of employee involvement in issues affecting them
  • Audited, reviewed and updated HR policies and procedures;
  • Created employee communications, prepared and delivered presentations to staff to introduce new policies and plans to staff;

Performance Management

  • Researched, designed and developed a comprehensive performance management system to diminish entitlement orientation and foster a performance based culture
  • Advised and coached managers on all disciplinary and termination issues;
  • Supported management in terminations, including preparation of letters and liaison with legal counsel.

Compensation Management

  • Designed and developed new compensation program for newly merged organization with 150 employees
  • Conducted job analysis and job evaluation processes using JobChartÒ system
  • Developed and administered salary surveys
  • Conducted focus groups with employees to determine compensation philosophy

Recruitment And Selection

  • Directed the selection, recruitment, and hiring programs and activities for senior management positions, including: Chief Operating Officer and Divisional Presidents;
  • Realigned recruitment models to be consistent with competency-based performance management system;

Training And Development

  • Conducted training needs assessments, sourced internal/external resources, compiled a training plan for the organization, and administered programs and budgets;

Employment Law

  • Represented the employer in sexual harassment investigations, and human rights cases, including, researching and writing the response, attending hearings, and implementing outcomes;
  • Responded to Employment Standards investigations regarding overtime and other employment violations

Benefits And Pensions

  • Designed and developed new group insurance and pension plan for 150 employees based on employee input through surveys and focus groups; successfully negotiated changes to the plan including employee cost-sharing changes
  • Reviewed the benefits package and negotiated a new program for Canadian employees; investigated, designed, and implemented a benefits program for a US subsidiary;
  • Researched and implemented a payroll system for US employees, including registration of the company in 11 different states to comply with federal and state legislation;
  • Evaluated benefits and pensions plans annually, determined any changes, and negotiated amendments with carriers;
  • Monitored and tracked short-term and long-term disability cases, created innovative return to work programs

  • Administered return to work programs, liaising with managers, employees, WSIB, and monitoring effectiveness of each case.
